The main characteristics of ITER Web CMS can be summarised as follows:
1.- Autonomous and Capable of Integration
It is designed to centralise all of the web's contents and, at the same time, it can be integrated with other editorial platforms. It can also be integrated with mail servers, or with the active directory for the administration and authentication of users that the editorial company has.
2.- Simple graphic interface
It operates with any of the browsers in the market. Given the type of product described, the user interface may exist in two different scenarios:
a) As an autonomous CMS Web: In this case, it uses its own graphic interface that makes it possible for the user to interact directly with the final view of the web in Wysiwyg mode. The interface is multi-language, making possible the customisation of the menus in the desired language.
b) Integrated with the existing editorial system: Where the editorial system is MILENIUM, it integrates fully into the work interface of journalists and designers. The integration with other editorial solutions requires an adequate analysis to identify the different alternatives.
3.- Simplicity of use
The journalist can view not just how his article looks but also – if he has the appropriate privilege – the full page. Changing the template may be done through drag&drop, in a graphic manner, thus saving precious time and, above all, having visual control over the appearance of the content.
4.- Management of content with journalistic criteria
There are "standard structures" for elements such as articles, galleries, surveys and other types of content which greatly speed up the work. Logically, these structures are enriched continuously by the designers so that journalists can use them with ease.
All of the tasks are designed so that they can be carried out by journalists with editorial criteria, without the need for any technical skills.
6.- Visual and rapid design
Thanks to pre-defined components (themes, layouts, templates and plugins) that make up a type of catalogue which is constantly being enriched, design work is speeded up and is carried out in a highly visual manner.
7.- Models for mobiles
Creating models with themes or templates adapted to devices with small screens, such as mobile phones, is also covered by ITER.
8.- Bringing the Web 2.0 closer to the journalist
Blogs, whether private (i.e. they belong to the newspapers themselves) or public; forums; comments; valuations; surveys; the sending of newsletters; connection to social networks; management of registered users' profiles… all of the functions typical required to interact with the public, commonly known as Web 2.0, are integrated into ITER in the same newsroom work environment.
9.- Integration of Advertising
From the opening up to integration –within a project – with the server solution of the advertisements that the client desires, ITER incorporates three basic types of advertising:
1. Static
Adding of images or flash as banners on any part of the page
2. Dynamic
Connection with Google Adsense, as the server for external ads.
3. Campaign
Association of striking advertising effects (such as interstitials or pop-ups) with certain pages.
10.- Statistics and Analysis Module
Editors know in real time and in graphic form the published content that is receiving the greatest number of visits, comments, valuations, or those which have been sent the most.
At the same time, it is also possible to consolidate and integrate data with external measurement systems, such as Google Analytics.
11.- Optimisation of indexing by search engines
ITER makes great use of SEO (Search Engine Optimization) mechanisms, such as metatags – which may be defined on the page – or the so-called "friendly urls", which guarantee a better positioning in the indexes.
12.- Archive
The historical content – commonly called the archive – may be offered to visitors. It may either keep the original look with which the content in question was published (static storage) or adapt it to the web's current image. ITER allows very high speed search and viewing.
13.- Ease of migrating contents and replacing existing systems
When it is a question of replacing another CMS that is operational, the migration of data is carried out directly by webservice.
14.- Open to customisation and singularity
The product is customisable, yet the client is assured that the plugins developed by third parties or its own technicians will still be compatible with future versions of it, since Protecmedia supervises and validates these developments to avoid them becoming a "tailor-made" solution, which would be difficult to support and subsequently develop.
